Pioneering Begins in
Toril Davao City
"For the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
Luke 19:10
Praise the LORD for He is good and His mercy endures forever! This is true my friends and when we step out in faith like Abraham, Moses and the prophets we really learn this through our dependence on the LORD. When we surrender our lives to God and follow His will denying ourselves our wants and desires, and joyfully choose to live for and serve God He guides us by His Holy Spirit and leads us to places we could never imagine or dream of going to! We have seen some awesome changes in our lives here these past couple weeks. Where do I begin...

I've been going to the mountains every Tuesday to learn vegetable growing practices with 100 Filipino farmers from different communities. This gives me a chance to practice speaking Cebuano the local dialect, I have a language teachers Ate Bebe who comes to teach me for one hour every week and I'm now on lesson 13 of 60. My helper Jerry and I've been learning lots of useful farming techniques. The lecturer Celes from "Harbest Seeds" happens to live 2 kilometers away from us and has agreed to help us with our vegetable gardens. We plan to use agriculture as one of the means of making our ministry self-sustainable.
We have been working diligently on organizing ourselves to operate as a legal entity here and this week I will submit the registration papers to SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) for our NGO (non-government organization). We named our non-stock, non-profit incorporation "WELLOFLIFE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INC." Our purpose is to reach the poorest of the poor and lead them into the Kingdom of God through practical holistic approaches (which I will explain later). We have a small manageable BOT (board of trustees) 5 people including Lydia and I. God has provided 3 other men of God to assist us with our vision. We have Pastor Casas, Kuya Rico a businessman (who's mother owns the compound we're renting), and Dominador "Sunday" who is the head of the soils laboratory for the Department of Agriculture and also is the chairman for a Foundation here offering assistance to the handicapped and disabled. God has linked us with Pastor Jun and his wife who are doing CHE (community health education) and has a school to provide free education in Muslim communities. They have agreed to partner with us and help to organize our community and help train our ministry team. God is so Great He even connected us with a Christian lawyer Atty. Tan who has been notarizing all my documents for free! This is a confirmation of God's blessing upon our lives, He takes care of His children in all areas.
We are now settled into our beautiful walled compound. This is a tremendous blessing from God as we now have 2 two-storey houses (1 is our house and office the other is our ministry house), we have gardens (to be constructed), a variety of bearing fruit trees, gorgeous flowers, a bird, dog, chickens, pool table, peaceful place to study and a needy community waiting for the Good News to confront them face to face! Our move was successful and we are setting up to evangelize this rural community. We have been busy cleaning up the place and doing repairs and setting up our garden area. All I can say is come to the Philippines and help us with the work the LORD has entrusted to us, the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few...so come help us to reap the harvest.

We have a church in our community which we have attended "Four Square Gospel Church" they have given us a warm welcome and we rejoice to be in the household of faith with our brothers and sisters in the LORD!
Please pray for the rest of our team, for God to bring us those who He has hand picked to carry out the goals and objectives God gives us for winning the souls of those in this community. There are 21 sub communities in our community and we intend to reach them all by the anointing of Christ our Leader through home visitations etc.. Since the fruit of a missionary is more missionaries we intend to train up and send out teams to other communities in the future. We are in a farming community where much land is not being used to it's full potential and is perfect for vegetable gardening. We hope to see this community a model community for "Community Transformation." We intend to set up a demonstration farm 2 lots down which will be our training grounds for farming interns who want to learn organic farming.
So far we have one helper named Jerry, he is from Agdao the other community we worked in. Jerry is 21 and loves the LORD, we are training and discipling him to be able to start a work one day in whatever community that God chooses for him. He lives and works with us Monday to Friday, we release him Saturday and Sunday as he's on the worship team of our old church and needs to be at practice. We give him a weekly allowance and he wants to go to collage next semester pray that he saves his money. We will eventually need a full time book-keeper/secretary, a full time social worker, a helper for household duties and about 5 people for our ministry team who will help build the relationships in the community. As you can see we have a big vision, the Word of God teaches us that where there is no vision people will perish. We realize we are small, but are comforted by a Big God, who never sleeps nor slumbers, nothing is impossible with our Almighty God so we say lets do this LORD! We are His servants and it's our job to go to the lost because Jesus Christ lives in us and how will they hear the Gospel unless we bring it to them?
Lydia is doing fine now that she is taking an insulin needle every morning to regulate her blood sugar level. It's an adjusting period for the both of us as so much has happened in such a short time. However it's years of planning and praying becoming a reality, all of this just didn't just happen overnight and it's just the beginning of something great. This new place has become a real blessing to Lydia as she has been able to find the rest and peace she is needing to have, although I have to stop her sometimes as she wants to help with all the work needed to be done. We're praying for a helper a couple days a week to lighten the load of household duties as it's a big place and lots of upkeep. We're trying to get established and set up before our little guy comes into this world.
Prayer Points:
1. Good health for Lydia and the baby.
2. Registration of our NGO to be completed God speed.
3. Strength and finances to be able to set all our livelihood projects up at our compound.
4. Dedicated Christians to join our ministry team and reach our community.
5. Our ministry of intercession and Bible study to be a number one priority, as many organizations get too busy in ministry to include Jesus in their schedule.
We covet you prayers!
Thanks for all you do to make this mission possible.
Bless God,
Love,
Jeffrey & Lydia Smith
